Want to gain entry to your office, get on a bus, or perhaps buy a sandwich? We're all getting used to swiping a card to do all these things. But at Epicenter, a new hi-tech office block in Sweden, they are trying a different approach - a chip under the skin.

This sounds horrific. What is wrong with carrying a card?

What's wrong with an electronic dog tag on a chain round your neck?
That's what they did on the rig I've just come off.

I have done it to my cats - so that if lost they can be read at the vets and returned and to work the cat flap that is chip enabled
So long as voluntary then great - have my oyster / bank card inserted - never lose them (or if you do its the least of your worries  )

So what if someone wanted to mug you? They'd have to chop off your hand to get your 'credit card'.

To paraphrase Dr. Evil, 'How about NO, you freaky Swedish bastard!'

The cards are expensive and they keep breaking. I'm always getting entry cards returned in 2 pieces or with hairline cracks along the antenna. Even better, the new ID cards, passports and debit cards use the same frequency and I'm always getting false-reads on the system and employees complaining they can't get into the building, because the card is in their wallet with all the others and those other cards overload the reader, before the entry card gets activated.

I found out that my YubiKey has the same type of NFC chip in it, so I use that for entry to the building.

I'm sure I read a book years ago (back in the 1970's) where the company execs who "ran the world" had something implanted in their arms which controlled access etc.

When the revolution came, off came the arms for use by the rebels. The execs didn't survive the experiance.
