Is this what Dave was talking about in another thread? Either way, Facebook was creepy enough near the beginning for me, never mind now.

yep, that was it, although that article puts it very mildly and doesn't cover everything.

The German media has been buzzing about this since early December and there have been campaigns on TV, from shows that used to put their Facebook URL on screen, for users to quit Facebook.

I do love that about Germany - without mentioning the obvious, it has the wit to let the past inform the present in many areas of life.

It is still hard to get away from the effects of the Stasi here. It is still too recent a memory and too many people had to live through it, that it can easily be forgotten.

Where are the Ads on Facebook?

Do they mean the suggested posts? Why when even the people I know and like post too much uninteresting crap on Facebook to the point where I have to unfollow most of them would I want to click on crap from people I don't know?

All those little FaceBook likes you see on other pages - those are iFrames containing little webpages that report back to base camp. They are typically inserted using JavaScript which the web site owner links to. You’ll be tracked whether you are a FaceBook user or not, or logged in or not, I suspect.

Which is illegal in Germany. The sites have to ask first, whether you want to be tracked. The Facebook likes and Twitter and Google scripts are not loaded by default on most German sites, you get sliders next to the logos and you have to explicitly turn them on.

A good example is leo.org. The F "Gefällt mir" and G +1 icons are greyed out and you need to push the slider next to them to enable them.

I block all of those. I don't mind them knowing what I do on facebook, but the rest of my time is none of their business.

Seems to be live video chatting. Sort of like those porn webcams of years gone by, only with teens filming themselves and reacting to incoming chat.

According to the report I saw on ZDF last night, it seems the half naked women have been replaced by teenagers, but the chat seems to have remained the same...
