Hillary Clinton calls for renewed assault weapons ban: they're a 'weapon of war' | US news | The Guardian
http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2016 ... ndo-attack

Quote:
Rattling off all the ways that Florida allows the proliferation of guns – the state doesn’t regulate assault weapons or large-capacity magazines, doesn’t require a permit to buy a gun or oblige owners of weapons to be licensed – she said: “That’s a lot of ‘nots’. I believe strongly that commonsense gun safety reform across our country would make a difference. We know the gunman used a weapon of war to shoot down at least 50 innocent Americans.”

Jesus fcuking wept.

As an American told me last year, the whole gun ownership thing is an arms race between the population, who feel that they need to be armed, and the police who feel that they need more and better weaponry than anyone else. So the population want bigger more powerful weapons to equal what the police have. And so it escalates.

The problem is that the second amendment isn’t really about gun ownership. It’s about forming militias after Independence when there wasn’t a standing army (partly because there weren’t enough guns to go round). So if you joined a militia, you had the right to bear arms (“arms” being a wonderfully vague term that could mean anything that could be handy in a fight).

You know what's ridiculous. That since the Orlando shooting there have been 3 more mass shootings (according to the FBI definition of mass shooting).

It's like it's the norm over there. It's crazy.

The Doctor of the local hospital that took the casualties Said “We are used to gun shot wounds as we get them most nights”

I wonder how many Gun shot wounds the average city A&E in this country gets

Average? None.

The US army used to send it's battlefield surgeons to A&E departments of hospitals in the rougher areas of Washington as training, because the rate of gunshot wound casualties incoming in there was higher than in any conflict theatre the troops were involved in. Not sure if it's still true but it was the practice at one point.

If the Sandy Hook shooting wasn't enough to change gun laws in the US, then this incident won't do anything either.

We are beyond guns now. We’re on to robot bombs.

Quote:
Mr Brown said the suspect had been killed when police used explosives placed by a robot to end a tense stand-off in a building where he had taken cover. Before that, he had spoken to a negotiator.

William Gibson (Famous sci fi author) tweeted something after the 'we killed the shooter with a robot bomb' story came out. It's the first paragraph of 'Count Zero', a book he wrote in 1986..

Quote:
They set a Slamhound on Turner's trail in New Delhi, slotted it to his pheromones and the color of his hair. It caught up with him on a street called Chandni Chauk and came scrambling for his rented BMW through a forest of bare brown legs and pedicab tires. Its core was a kilogram of recrystallized hexogene and flaked TNT.

He didn't see it coming.
