It’s more likely that Russia is eyeing up Finland than us, but wants to see if we are capable of helping defend that part of the world.

This has always been true. At any point during the cold war, if the entire Soviet air force decided to make a run straight for Britain and nobody intercepted them on the way, the RAF would have run out of fuel and missiles before it managed to stop them all.

This, however, is an utterly stupid scenario. There's absolutely no reason for the Soviet (or now Russian) air force to throw it's entire might against Britain's air space. Not only would it be massively wasteful for them, it's tactically inept to the point of actual lunacy.

It's Air Force bigwigs using a few admittedly provocative Bear flights as a scare story to try and get the RAF some more money for some new shiny toys and people with shiny badges to fly them. And to anyone who knows anything at all about geo politics or strategic air warfare, it's bordering on insulting.

Also, the video on the RT page is faked, or at least heavily edited. There are a couple of cuts where the escorting fighters are definitely not Typhoons - they look more like late model Mirages.

Sound familiar? The time of report is in the URL. Note I'm not suggesting footage from that event was edited into the video linked above, simply that this is not actually anything new.

and.. Favourable outcome doubtful in a war against USA.

We both lose.
Mainly because if they attacked up like that, we'd nuke them and they'd nuke us back.
