Quote:
Leonard Nimoy fell ill last Thursday (February 19) with chest pains and was treated at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, according to news reports. Nimoy, 83, announced in January 2014 that he was contending with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and Star Trek's Spock believes his years of smoking -- despite having given up the habit more than 30 years ago -- caused it.

90% of COPD cases are caused by smoking - even if you stopped years ago.

It does bring to mind an episode of Columbo where Nimoy was a cardiac surgeon operating on another surgeon with the intention to kill him.

My dad used to smoke like a West Midlands industrial city. He stopped around 2000, and has been enjoying better breathing since. He's got an inhaler now - he gets breathless at times. As a card carrying asthmatic, he's been asking me about them recently. I think he's getting used to the idea of carrying medication around with him. This news has made me think of him and the possibility of problems to come.

A classic. Using the wrong thread for the stitches, knowing they wouldn't hold long enough.

If only Columbo had been colorblind, he would have gotten away with it...

I hope he makes a recovery, but he has reached a ripe old age.
