Sounds like a job for PFI to me ![]() Seriously though, while the location makes the land it's on probably worth an absolute fortune the fact it's a Grade 1 asbestos riddled fire hazard (that's a neat trick by the way) doesn't lend itself to private ownership. Not sure what the actual rules are on Grade 1 listed buildings but I suspect if it's too expensive to repair they just get left to rot until they become dangerous and then have to be demolished. |

Any repairs would have to be made in accordance to the original construction methods, materials and plans as far as possible. Given the extremes that are gone to to patch up mediaeval cathedrals, some Victorian Gothic Monstrosity should be fairly easy to do. After all, it’s an iron frame with stone cladding. As a building, I’ve never really liked it - too lumpy and not old enough to carry the gothic styling. IMHO it would be better to flatten the thing, and rethink the “cross the floor at a swords length” approach to how government works anyway. It’s currently a bear pit and is far too up it’s own arse for any good other than as a historical curiosity. |

I agree with the notion of having a new parliament building. Compare the current one to the scottish parliament building which, despite all it's problems, is an amazing piece of work. We would have to keep Big Ben though (yes, I know..) given it's probably one of the most iconic pieces of architecture in the modern world. |
