I don't think anyone has posted about this yet. I know why I don't like them but I read this article today and didn't realise so many people felt the same. Mary Portas summed it up perfectly for me:

Yip, that's certainly part of it. A local small store that was never anything other than packed with shoppers opened and closed like a lady of the night... A bigger local store became a metro which was absolutely useless for it's location, a medium-sized shopping centre.

I used to shop at Tesco regularly but rarely do now. I find the quality of their stuff does not justify the price tag (which seems to haven risen over the years) and the constant 'offers' that are in no way offers drive me crazy.
For the bulk of my shopping, particularly fruit, veg and meat, I go to Aldi and it's a lot cheaper. They don't have everything I might typically buy and a trip to Sainsbury's/Asda/Tesco will be required occasionally to top up on those things but I'm overall better off and my food is no worse.
And to be fair to Aldi they do their own 'extra special' range and it's rather good. I've tried their jar of curry sauce and 28 day matured fillet steak and both were very, very nice and cheaper than the other supermarkets.
