http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... k-scotland Don't worry about it. He told us we shouldn't have inquiries into spectacular government cover-ups and that he'd sort out our border problem... |

Riiiight, he's got [LIFTED] all chance of getting any votes, north of the border, so he decides to whip up the auld enemy BS to try and target the votes of any gullible morons south of the border. He really is getting desperate. |

The thing is he's not the only one looking increasingly desperate. I'd actually say that in terms of negative rhetoric the flow from the majority of parties has actually been increasingly anti-Scottish as the prospects of the SNP doing well have increased. Everyone is well aware of the SNP agenda and, yes, if they do as well as expected they'll probably be in a position to cause a right old stink in Westminster. Thing is, it could do with being shaken out of its complacency. I think its also prudent to consider the message the SNP took away from the independence referendum. They lost this time round so they need to consider very carefully how to attract enough of the people who voted against them last time. Going in and smashing up the Union from Westminster isn't the smartest thing they could do as it would just entrench pro-unionist positions. Acting responsibly in the interests of the UK at Westminster (while ensuring a better deal for Scotland) is the way to go, especially if it makes the Tories and Labour look like twats in the process. |

Scots aren't racist until they get a few drinks in them. When they hear an English accent at 2am in Aberdeen, the racist abuse starts. I got it on occasions, and a mate who lived there moved away in the end. |

It's certainly not true of ALL Scots - and I suspect Aberdeen's peculiar economy makes it different from the rest of Scortland - but I've definitely been treated 'oddly' by occasional locals while up in Scotland. Plus there are places that seem very reticent to take English currency, for no good reason at all. Seems to be more prevalent on the islands than the mainland. The vast majority have been welcoming though, as I suspect most people in most parts of the world actually are. It's just the assholes that give the rest of us a bad name. |

Money side of it - generalised for brevity.... England doesn't like NI money, we're not keen on the Scots' notes. Sad and pointless but somewhat true. |

You can find pratts in any part of the world. They're not restricted to any one geographical location. As for money, IIRC vendors in Scotland are no more obliged to accept non-Scottish bank notes than vendors in England are to accept notes not issued by the Bank of England. Its more normal to hear of Scottish notes being rejected in England in my experience and it tends to get worse the further south you go. First I've heard of Scots retaliating but as I've said I believe it's entirely correct and would be quite funny to have an English person getting cross about legal tender (which doesn't actually exist AFAIK). |

True, but the reality is they are effectively interchangeable and 99% of the population of both states treat them as such. I haven't had the 'wrong' currency outright refused in either case but I have had people do stuff like very obviously check them for forgery (when the person doing so would have no idea if they were forged or not anyway). That's happened to me a few times in various places. I did also have one shopkeeper say 'have you got no Scottish money?' before accepting English money when I said no (which was true, I'd only just arrived at that point).
11 times the population, hardly a surprise you've come across more idiots. I wonder if the reverse is true of Euros, the further north you get the less people like them. Of course, Euros aren't valid currency in the UK, so it's a slightly different point.
Cobblers. There are plenty of things that are technically correct that we could do to people that we don't because it would be impolite or possibly cruel to do so. Ostentatiously checking the validity of a banknote just because it was issued by a bank you don't normally deal with fits into that category. As the saying goes 'just because you can doesn't mean you should'. In both cases, it's a display of.. rudeness and stupidity.
Very few people get cross about the esoteric rules of British money. Most people would get cross if they were treated badly or impolitely, whatever the context. |

I'm not talking stereotypes, I'm talking personal experience. Time after time after time. Or are you saying I've been bumping into the same racist individual most times I've been out in Aberdeen over a ten year period? If someone started hounding black or Muslim people in the streets like that the police would be interested. But in Aberdeen no one bats an eye lid at abusing English people in the street. |

There is no anti-English bigotry in Scotland. "We have always been at war with Eurasia" |

No, I'm saying you're making a sweeping generalisation, coloured by your own prejudice; and you're still confused about the meaning of racism. |
