Ex-army chief urges PM to consider 'boots on the ground' to fight Isis | World news | The Guardian

Maybe they'll get boots that don't melt this time... It's an international problem, make it an international force. Or are we just waiting for thin 'tache in Syria to be overrun?

no boots on the ground are needed at this time
let them butcher each other. later we can go in and pick up the pieces ...

Too many innocent people involved for that. Isis may ironically become al Assad's saviour if the international community is morally forced to step up. Syria needs to be stabilised to stop Isis spreading even further, and so we come to the usual problem - we need one of the world's foremost lunatics to stay in charge of his asylum. Probably at least for a decade while we're distracted by Isis and whoever comes next. Same old sh1t, different decade.

Not when they're on a boat and/or in front of a camera.

Nice. However I agree that at this point 'boots on the ground' fighting ISIS would be an utterly ludicrous thing to do. The last thing you do is fight an enemy on his own turf in the way he wants you to fight him. It's like we earned absolutely nothing from the entire last sodding decade of military misadventures.
