Most payments using the new Apple Pay system will be limited to £20 when it launches in the UK in July, the BBC understands.

Major UK banks, apart from Barclays, have announced they will offer the new system. So too will many retailers.

Apple Pay works with Apple devices with the appropriate NFC Chip - that means iPhone 6 models, and the Apple Watch (which will bring Apple Pay to iPhone 5 S owners). A lot of UK retailers are going to be onboard, including TFL - taking payments on busses and the underground.

That means to travel on the Tube, you can place your Apple Watch near the scanner, and you’ll be let through the barrier. OK - there’s a flaw there. Most people wear their watches on their left wrist. On the barriers to Tube stations, the sensor is on the right as you walk through. So using your Apple Watch to pay for your journey may be a bit awkward.

IIRC quite a lot of retailers limit 'pay by bonk' payments to a tenner as it stands. At least all the supermarkets seem to.

One, a message from the rest of the country - HaHA! (/Nelson)

I guess it depends exactly how quick the system will be - if you can just reach across and not break stride it won't be too bad but if it takes a second or two and you have to stop, then it's a non-starter. I suppose lefties get few enough chances to feel smug so...
