I'd be paranoid about that sort of thing.

Most of the things I've bought from IKEA over the years have had a wall mounting bracket included in the box, but I never used them and nothing ever fell over.

They put a wall anchor in the box that people tend not to fit.
If you don't anchor the unit to the wall and you allow your kids to climb up the unit then it's not Ikea's fault

When exactly has stupidity ever stopped litigation in the USA (and increasingly here for that matter)?

This is the same country that has curious attitudes towards letting small children play with loaded guns.

+1
All their tall stuff has a wall mounted safety retainer here.

I have bought a couple of ikea dressing drawers, bedside drawers and bookshelf. All have come with the wall-retaining thingamajig and I've never bothered using it. But then I tend to be careful about how I use such furniture (heavy stuff at bottom, don't overload the top etc).

The wall bracket/strap has been standard practise for most if not all flat pack furniture for years now - not just Ikea stuff.

This isn't a safety alert, it's a negligence and stupidity alert.

I don't use them either but, if something tips over because I neglected to fit the restraint, I'm not stupid enough to try and blame someone else.
