Apparently heavy drinking and smoking are on the decrease in the UK, while mental health issues are skyrocketing. What part of that makes it sound like it's time to legalise a drug the vast majority have never even tried before?

'It costs money to police it'. Everything costs money, and just about everything can be sold, but that doesn't make it a good idea. See the NHS, which is already under ridiculous strain in order to be duly privatised, and will bear the brunt of legalisation. Take your pick from complex mental health problems to people doing a George Michael in their car. Drink driving is another issue that's on the decline, apparently, so why replace it with something else? On that note, I've personally never known a cannabis user who didn't think it was OK to drive.

Quote:
The most recent figures from the Crime Survey of England and Wales, published this week, showed the number of people using cannabis had risen to a five-year high. It also showed the number of young adults using cannabis rose past a million for the first time since 2010-11.

As above, when other substance use of every description is falling, why the hell is cannabis use apparently growing? Wouldn't be massive underlying social problems would it?

Millions of peope have smoked weed for decades around the world. If there were a viable causal link between that and mental health issues, you would have science to say so rather than empty innuendo.
