Without clicking on the link, I thought it was because ownership stayed with the academy awards, so it's not the actors Oscar to sell. |

No, but (according to the article, to save you the trouble) winners enter into a legal contract with the academy, and one of the things they agree to is to give the academy first refusal, at an agreed price of $10, before they put it on the open market. |
