I know it's the daily fail but the story is disgusting. I hope he is found and killed. Would be nothing less than he deserves!  Apparently the American guy thought his hunt was perfectly legal. That makes him an unwitting victim of fraud. The fact he'd gone to Africa to kill a lion at all makes him an utter knob jockey. |

Because he kills animals for fun and has been prosecuted in the past for illegally poaching bear in his home town. What gives him the right to cruelly kill such amazing animals? Killing animals for food I can understand but I don't agree in killing any animal for 'sport'. I guess you do? |

No? Unfortunately we are the only animals on the planet who think we can do what we want with no comeback. What punishment would you suggest for him? I know I'm not the only one who thinks death would be appropriate. You only have to look at what's been said on the internmet in the last 24 hours. Anyway the death penalty is still going in some states of America. |

Actually, pretty much all animals probably do think exactly that, because there are very few animals on the planet intelligent enough to know that actions have consequences. If a cat kills a mouse, he's not thinking 'oh lord, that mouse might have had a family'. However we are probably the only animals who do understand the long term consequences of our actions and also go on hunting safaris. The idea anybody could think killing a lion was 'Ok' is... astonishing. What he did was pretty horrible by any standards.
Some people think death is an appropriate sentence for an ill-judged tweet. His punishment should be the punishment according to Zimbabwean law for illegally killing a lion, which is what he has done. If that IS the death penalty well, hard luck him, but I suspect it's not. It may be quite harsh though - I don't think I'd want to spend a long time in a Zimbabwean jail.
No. Just No. We are not running a justice system based on 'what people on the internet say'. That's a 'thumb in the air' indicator of public opinion but a justice system has to be more... considered than that.
But not for killing an animal... |

Pretty much what Jon said. While what he has done is pretty heinous, a death sentence is a bit extreme in a civilized society. Just because he acts uncivilized, do we have to sink to his level, when it comes to punishing him. |

I don't know that it's just the fact that it's 'a lion', I think it's got more to do with the fact that it's an endangered species, protected by law, lured from a reserve by unscrupulous people to be killed by a trophy hunter for a big wodge of cash that will do absolutely nothing for the country. For me, the biggest piece here is that we're running out of species that aren't human, on this planet. Humans as a species have hunted so many animals to extinction and we have a very definite feeling of superiority that we have no real right to, over all 'animals' which is really changing the landscape of the planet we live on. I object to the hunting of animals for trophies and for big packets of cash, particularly in a place as corrupt as Africa and even more so when it's animals from reserves and protected areas. I wholeheartedly support the guards on the bears, rhinos and elephants who are trying to prevent more species being hunted to extinction by poachers for the sake of money from a country who believe in magical powers! I do hope the guards kill the poachers, but while I don't necessarily think this idiotic american knew much about the local guides tricking the lion out of it's reserve so he could kill it (although I'd be surprised if he didn't have a clue) I think the fact that he paid $55k to do it is abhorrent, that money could go to someone really making a difference in Africa, medecins sans frontieres for a start, to have it actually going to the people rather than to the corrupt government officials would be a far better use of the money than the murder of 1 member of an endangered species!! |
