Quote:
The presenter said it was "one of the best jobs on television" but felt "it was time to move on".

He will be replaced by Sandi Toksvig, who called it her "dream job". She stood down as chair of BBC Radio Four's The News Quiz earlier this year after a 10-year run.

Alan Davies will remain as resident panellist.

Aren't they half way through it's theoretical 26 series run?

Oh no!

If anyone is to replace him I guess Sandi Toksvig is probably quite a good choice. Plus, I suppose that means he might return as a panellist rather than QI Master.

Boo. I had hoped they'd cover the full series although I have felt each series could have been shorter.

I don't think he can successfully be replaced.
Half of the show is his personality.

I'd rather agree, in a sense. The sort of scholarly demeanour he portrayed was an integral part of the show as we have come to know it. I think it's true to say QI without him will not be the same. The question is whether 'New QI' will be better or worse, which I'm entirely not sure about. Sandi Toksvig can be very good - I remember being in fits laughing at a live show of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue she was the host for - but she can also be too... considered and laid back for her own good.

So the jury is very much out at this point. Although in fact it's more 'sitting in the court waiting for the evidence to be presented to them' in fact.

If they were going to pick a pervious panelist, I'd have preferred either John Sessions or Rev Richard Coles.

I think both of them would have also made excellent hosts, Sessions especially. I suspect Coles may have a few too many other commitments to manage hosting QI as well mind.

Coles might have been a good choice, but I find Sessions (especially on QI strangely) pretty tiresome. And I think he must be semi-retired by now, surely? He's only made very sparse appearances on TV in the last few years. Certainly not going to be wanting to stick around for 13 series...

I reckon Ken Campbell would've been worth a test.

Or Michael Palin.

IIRC Michael Palin was the original choice before Stephen Fry.
