European Parliament votes against net neutrality amendments - BBC News http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-34649067 I'm really suspicious of that data roaming news now - was it just a smokescreen for this idiocy? ![]() |

I'm really suspicious that the amendments weren't outlined. The article also mixes QoS and Net Neutrality, the two are very different. There has been and should always be prioritisation of certain types of traffic - for example, voice and video communication traffic needs to be very high level, then streaming services and so on, until you get down to services that are not time critical (email, IMs etc.), which aren't worried if they turn up a few milliseconds later. That is QoS Net Neutrality is making sure there is no discrimination between data of the same type - that YouTube doesn't get priority over Netflix or Vimeo, for example. But without actually stating what the amendments are, it is hard to tell if they are good or bad. That TBL supported them points that at least some of them might have been a good idea, but what were they? |
