The words I would want to use to describe the three ostensibly honourable members of parliament, I would not use on a pubic forum.

That is the purpose of a filibuster - talk for long enough to prevent the issue from having time to come up for a vote.

I know that's the point of a Fillibuster. <snip>

I know that's the point of a Fillibuster. Seems like damn stupid subject to use one on. Alienating 50 odd percent of the electorate isn't the smartest thing to do.

The government (of both political stripes) seem to be of the opinion that the 5% rate is the lowest it can go. What I don't understand is why sanitary products can't just be reclassified as essentials or zero rated by the government. There's some claim that it's down to some EU legislation but I haven't seen a good explanation of what it is. If it some EU gubbins that's the problem it gives anti-EU lot a nice wedge for use at the referendum.

Err.... I think you might have the issue on which he sabotaged the motion wrong?

I consider filibustering to be anti-democratic. It is, essentially, preventing representatives of the people from making a firm decision on an issue, one that their constituents may feel very strongly about. If you don't like a proposal, vote against it and convince other members to vote against it if you can. if your arguments are strong, the measure will not be passed. This just suggests he had no actual argument against it worth a damn, so his only tactic was to stop the vote happening at all.

Also, I strongly suspect the photo at the top of the story is going to come back to haunt him at the next election.
