Totally surprised by the FO bit - if true, that must have been a long, dark night of... Oh. Never mind.

My guess is he'll fudge the tax credits; stagger them, link them to something else, whatever. He'll be needing some insurance if he really is gonna go ahead with announcing the further slaughtering of core services. His own party are already jittery, and there's gonna be a never-ending stream of complaining public servants in the headlines. Backed by an old man the Tories are remarkably frightened off because they know the house is built on financial quicksand.
