Sting once had a friend with a plate in his mouth whom he paraded on TV like some kind of ethnic freak show. I wasn’t impressed by that at all.
It is ALWAYS “almost too late” to save the planet, and has been that for a while - especially if you listen to the Grand Wizards of the Church of the Carbon Footprint’s accountants. There are also far too many voices from the scientific community who are saying that the planet is beyond redemption alrerady, and it’s not a case of if, but when. Whatever side the coin falls in this particular toss, the fact of the matter is that there is a massive cash machine in motion now based on this, and that, my friends, is where the cynics like me get off because if the whole global warming thing was proven 100% tomorrow to be a scam, or caused by something we have absolutely no control over (eg solar radiation, gamma pulses from a distant stellar body, etc) , a lot of people would lose a shed load of money. Because of this, anyone with a contrary point of view is slapped down hard by The Church. This is why I get more cynical about this every time some celeb or royal pops their heads up and spouts o forth.
I also believe that mastering planetary mechanics is a few centuries off, and it’s something we are in danger of cocking up more than if we just left it to its own devices. Let the planet go through it’s adjustment cycle. We will either evolve to adapt, or die.
