BBC Clicky I quite like the idea of storing it in the old oil wells... And the £10million figure...Is this the UK's contribution? and are other nations going to put in? |

Once again we're after spending money to try to prevent something over which we have little control, instead of spending it to cope with the changes that are inevitable anyway. I despair. I really do. |

Indeed. The climate would change irrespective of whether humans were here or not and Carbon really isn't the biggest baddy out there whether you believe CO2 contributes to, or is a byproduct of, a warming climate. As an aside though, we do need other forms of producing electricity. I happened to catch Coast the other night where a Norwegian has come up with a working model for creating electricity through osmosis. Very clever, completely green and in the UK we have an abundance of the fresh and sea water that would be needed. |

Did anyone watch that program called "The Cell"? It was all about the discovery etc... of cells and so on. Given what they were saying towardss the end of the 3 parter surely they will soon be able to manufacture cells that can transform CO2 into O2 thus eliminating the fact that we have to store the CO2 somewhere. If you missed it then it's definitely worth a watch. It's on iPlayer. |

I sort of agree, but given the amount of deforestation we, as a species, have done over the last century or so, it isn't as stupid as it sounds - although putting up real trees might be better...

I'll see if I can catch that tomorrow. I agree that converting CO2 is a far better idea than trying to hide it under the carpet. Ideally, what we need is some clever cells that take CO2 and H2O and combine them using solar power to generate O2 and hydrocarbons or hydrocarbates, which could be used as fuel for vehicles or stored underground where it would eventually fossilise. On a large scale, this photosynthetic carbon recycling plant might be called something like "Factory Of Remarkable Recycling Evolved Solar Technology". |
