SpaceX rocket explodes while trying to land on drone ship It's just as well nobody was around. Although it was a technical fault (something didn't lock into place on one of the four legs) that makes the legs look a bit flimsy. I suspect it'll be a while before they'll be sending people up on something like that. But still, science is awesome, even if it doesn't go entirely to plan ![]() |

The bit going up is fine. The people wouldn't be anywhere near it by the time it comes down. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Yeah, but that kinda defeats the point and economics of a re-usable craft though, doesn't it? ![]() |

What I meant is. They could use it for taking people t space. Like the ISS and other stuff. But the people wouldn't be on the first stage when it comes back. They'd be in the capsule which is designed to land. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

yeah, we can do that bit fine. I suspect however that Musk's business model is built on not throwing away the booster each time - what's happening in that clip is essentially his profit going up in flames. |

Fogmeister and Jon are of course correct. Engage brain before typing Davros ![]()
The booster stage was designed to land as well, although in fairness we have rather more practice at landing capsules without them exploding than boosters. ![]() |

Hehe. I like the analogy I came up with. If landing the capsule or lunar module is like reverse parking a mini in a supermarket. Then landing the first stage is like an F1 car doing a handbrake turn at 150mph into the same parking spot and not touching the cars around it. ![]() Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
