I thought that was, you know, very christian of them.

It's a free country (well, allegedly anyway).
You can pray for anyone you want to, whether they like it or not.

We're so used to angry Christians that we can't believe the church might do something nice. That's pretty sad.

If you believe prayer works - it's a good thing.
if you don't believe prayer works - it's utterly irrelevant.

Either way, getting angry about it is stupid. But it seems to me these days a large chunk of the internet exists entirely to get angry about things.
