It was never clear what they intended to do with them, but I assumed it was to be a marriage of AI and machine. You know, like they had a plan ;)

Didn't the Marine Corps recently reject the new bots as too noisy to be of use in the field?

I'd imagine that could trigger a desire to bail out.

The latest ones are much quieter than the originals. I guess it's just a case of progression.

They didn't want to sell to the military anyway, but the were obligated to continue the contracts.

Seems strange that they have suddenly lost interest - although the guy who pushed heavily for robotics, Andy Rubin, left Google in December 2014.
