Bloody stupid idea. You should be required to drop your phone in a bucket of water before entering the cinema.

The had a “millennial” on the news last night in some jokey interview where her and the presenter’s phones kept making noises. She said that a cinema would be a place not to have a phone on.

Steady on. Plenty of people go to cinemas with phones and present no nuisance whatsoever. They're smart/polite enough to stick them on silent and in a pocket. What you actually want is a couple of smart sentry guns in the ceiling, tuned to fire on anything that looks like an active mobile phone screen.

So they interviewed someone who wasn't an idiot, basically.

I still can't help thinking it was a publicity stunt. But it's hard to tell these days...

It was a stupid idea to begin with. Bright screens are distracting in a dark theatre. What annoys me as much is that Vue cinema want you to join in with quizzes on screen through using your mobile phone. This happens after the trailers but just before the film. Muppets.
