One in four executives believes 'corruption and bribery is rife in UK' | Business | The Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/business/201 ... ry-rife-uk How incredibly suspicious are those figures lol. Remarkably honest for once, aren't they? |

It's definitely a problem in the construction industry. I know some sites (run by some big firms) won't even consider you as a supplier unless you pitch up with brown envelope. We refuse to deal with them, but not having proof of corruption makes it bloody hard to explain to the board members why we're not fighting for work on certain projects. |

I can't find exact deets right now, but I think it is the Economist Intelligence Unit that does a global corruption survey by counting the industries from which billionaires in all the various countries gained their wealth. If too high a proportion of the billionaires in one country got their cash from mining, defence or construction, that country is sort of hosed because those are usually the most corrupt industries in any country. You probably wouldn't want a construction industry billionaire to become PM or president of any major economy *ahem*. |
