I look forward to electrical cars, once the battery problems have been solved. I thought about getting a Leaf a couple of years back... But I often drive over the range limit. The big question is, how long do the batteries last and how expensive are they to replace? If they are going to cost 10K every 4 years (for example), then I'll stick with buying an old petrol car for 10K every 4 years... If, on the other hand, the batteries fall to a reasonable level and last 10 years, then I would swap straight away, once we get a 300 mile range. |

Range, charging time and locations are three that need to addressed imho. For the most part my daily commute is about 40 miles, mostly on motorway so not a major problem. It's the occasional trip up to visit the parents (320 miles one way) that would concern me. If you could squeeze a full charge into the car in about 30 minutes or less you'd be on a winner provided motorway services had a sufficient number of charging points. Charging at home is a potential issue. Where I live there isn't any designated parking so it's a free for all down both sides of the street - hardly conducive to running a cable from the house unless you happen to have snagged a space right outside your front door. Plus the trend still seems to be multi car households. Unless charging points are installed next to every parking bay that's an issue. It'll be interesting to see what solutions emerge. |

For those that use cars just for commuting or travelling, most would be happy with an electric car. But those of us who use cars for pleasure, part of the thrill is the engine noise, the power and handling. I would miss this in any electric car. Otherwise, as above, you need to address multiple issues. My Golf is petrol engined but if I drive frugally, I can just about hit 40mpg and 400 mile range. Typical motorway driving is 320 miles range before the petrol light comes on. It takes maybe 5 mins to fill up and pay (provided there's no queue on the forecourt or in the shop). Having to wait 30 mins every 200 miles would be a PITA for me. |

The S probably very easily. The roadster might have a bit of difficulty. ![]() |

That's some fancy footwork there. Political speak for "there's not a f****** chance of this happening, but we want to get some credit for the idea." |

I'd be happy with an electric vehicle for the daily commute. Even the PHEV vehicles would be good as the commute could be done entirely on battery and I still have an actual engine for when I need range. The problem I have with all electric vehicles is the lifespan and cost of the batteries. At the moment I couldn't justify the cost over burning old dinosaurs. |
