Good on them.

It's stating a bit tough for people in remote areas. My friend who lives in a tiny village cannot go to work anymore. People still support the strike in general.

Good on them.

Why good on them - they are hardly introducing slave labour

Without seeing the detail of the changes to be made (the BBC article lists what is being changed without saying in any details how they are being changed) I can't really say if I have any sympathy for the strikers or not, but this...

Quote:
The government provoked union outrage when it resorted to a constitutional device to force its watered-down labour reforms through parliament without a vote, earlier this month.

absolutely gets my back up. If you're changing the laws in a democracy, especially in a way that will affect millions of people, you bloody well should have a vote on it. The obvious conclusion from this tactic is the government didn't think they'd win a vote if there was one, in which case the new laws are probably a) very unpopular and b) badly formed.

Between that and the enthusiasm for both putting the army on French streets and wading into Syria after the Bataclan massacre, the French government isn't looking very.. French at the moment.

If they shut all of the nuclear power plants then it will be the summer of discontent

But the government will back down the French governments nearly always do

Making other people miserable seems to be the French way when it comes to industrial action. No peaceful protests. It's always blockades and burning tyres.

I doubt anything else would work tbh.

French people are broadly agreeing with strikers though, no one seems to bat an eyelid

I wonder how long that will last. In 2000 when we had the fuel protests, people turned on the lorry drivers after they did their motorway blockages and when people could get fuel to get to work.
Sympathy to a cause will only last so long when people are being seriously put out.
In this case there's a good chance the French government will fold. They're not as stubborn as they are here.
