Well, I guess you could make an argument for having a system that's so out of date that modern hacking techniques over the internet are completely useless against it.

It's more a case of 'if it works don't fix it' I think. They know the systems are reliable and (figuratively and literally) bomb-proof. Designing, building and testing a replacement/upgrade of any significant part of one of the subs is ludicrously expensive so they just don't bother unless it actually doesn't work any more.

Just because a device can use floppy disks doesn't mean that that is its only storage method and that all of the data and programs are stored on floppy...

The problem with that is that you need a replacement for such a critical system to be ready when it stops working.

On a nuclear submarine the critical systems will have in place redundancy or will carry spares. Not like you can courier a part to them after all. Obviously you can't carry a whole extra submarine in your submarine. There are certain things where there available options upon failure could be 'surface or die' or even in catastrophic cases just 'die'. It has happened. But there's plenty of room on a Ohio class for a spare floppy drive.

Thinking back - not that many - some failures were due to
- compass point through it
- teeth marks
