I've never heard of a school like that in my life. Or seen a headteacher so politically militant. Possibly, it gets results, but I wouldn't trust her as far as I could throw her.

This sounds dreadful - why sanction the child when it's the parent at fault? Surely a letter and a trip to the small claims court would be a better route to nail the point home?

These aren't parents who can't pay, these are parents who can't be arsed to pay. I doubt a letter would make a blind bit of difference.
