I follow you on Facebook, but you don’t know me. I am editor-in-chief of the Norwegian daily newspaper Aftenposten. I am writing this letter to inform you that I shall not comply with your requirement to remove a documentary photography from the Vietnam war made by Nick Ut.

You, of course, know the photo he’s referring to. It’s this:

Now, given the other thread about the Belfast girl’s photo and FaceBook, I think this is a rather interesting contrast. It seems that FaceBook can work rather quickly, and aggressively, if they want to.
Quote:
The demand that we remove the picture came in an e-mail from Facebook’s office in Hamburg this Wednesday morning. Less than 24 hours after the e-mail was sent, and before I had time to give my response, you intervened yourselves and deleted the article as well as the image from Aftenposten’s Facebook page.

Continuing:

Quote:
Tom [Norwegian author Tom Egeland who posted the article] then rendered Kim Phuc’s [the naked girl in the photo, fleeing the napalm] criticism against Facebook for banning her picture. Facebook reacted by excluding Tom and prevented him from posting a new entry.

That's the sort of thing I was talking about - they're deliberately inconsistent at best, actively profiting from clicks around beheadings at worst.

If FB really is news central for many (dear love us), then it would totally be in it's interest to mix that with the usual gimpery on there - having every shade of fact and fiction would enable the data metrics they crave like never before.
