For one thing it is, or was, an incredible tool for spreading British culture around the globe and never underestimate the propaganda potential. There's a reason it was, until recently, funded by the Foreign Office rather than the licence fee. Also, I can't help escaping the old legacy of empire thing where the WS is concerned. |
