Well of course it's going to do them more harm than good. Letting them jump the queue is teaching them to expect special treatment all the time. They can bloody well queue like the rest of us.

Pity my other half. She has a class load of these to deal with next year, and that’s on top of the really disadvantaged kids who come with helpers.

Strange how ADHD never caused discipline problems in school when the cane was in use.

Hmmm, as far as I'm concerned ADHD is a load of crap. There's a reason some kids are the way they are. Its called 'the way they were brought up.'

I can relate to that, my other half showed me a list of all the "syndromes and conditions" her pupils had been diagnosed with and half of them, IMHO (and totally without any medical knowledge ) should of been under the "should of got a slap when younger".

I don't mind accepting ADHD as an actual medical condition, it's just the "Well he can't help it" attitude that everyone else takes about said person. I knew a kid who could get away with murder and his parents would just sit there and do nothing about it. When anyone tried to intervine they were told off by the kids parents... And I've seen similar situations in the various areas of Scouting I've been involved in, back home and at uni...

Exactly. Its becomes an excuse for lazy parenting which would only make matters worse. My nephew was suspected of ADHD. That was until my parents stepped in and sorted the kid out (mother is a lazy good for nothing %&*()$""% &^%$^&*). There's nothing wrong with him. He's smart (very actually)and well behaved (mostly - he IS a kid!).

Mr V - can I borrow your parents to sort out my youngest please as I would appear to be, and I quote, "a lazy good for nothing %&*()$""% &^%$^&*)"? Of course, I don't allow my child to get away with murder and I certainly don't tag him with the "he can't help it" line but I'm reassured to hear from you that there's nothing wrong with him and that it's all my lazy a$$ed fault Strange that all the medical advice we've had up to now contradicts your opinion though And no - my son queues up with the rest of you and takes his turn. It's how we brought him up to behave. Al

Al, I think you'll find he was referring to one case where he has first hand knowledge of the circumstances, and wasn't tagging every parent of a child with ADHD, (suspected or diagnosed) as being lazy whateveritwas's

I think the queue jumping is nonsense, but I just wanted to say something about the condition. I was diagnosed at 13 and it's not something that's made up to cover bad behaviour. I was never an asshole, but my report cards always said "could do better". I was totally CBA and had zero attention span. To an extent, I still struggle. My parents did their best, but it was the education system that made it 20x worse.
Just wanted to point that out, as a lot of people seem to think it's made up.

I was exactly the same. Got bored easily, didn't listen, etc... report card always said "could do better". I don't have any condition, it's because the teachers were going too slow. I got bored because they were going over the same stuff they had been over 4 or 5 times before and I knew it already. Don't beat yourself up by labelling yourself with some disorder just because you got bored in school or whatever. Whilst people may have been "diagnosed" with conditions such as ADHD I do think it's a cop out for finding the actual cause of any "problems". Especially now there are things like Oppositional Defiant Disorder (which I heard about recently on the news) which is categorised by the following symptoms... 1. often loses temper; 2. often argues with adults; 3. often actively defies or refuses to comply with adult requests or rules; 4. often deliberately annoys people; 5. often blames others for mistakes or misbehavior; 6. is often touchy or easily annoyed by others; 7. is often angry and resentful; 8. is often spiteful and vindictive; Now, to me that just seems like the kid hasn't been taught how to behave. There is no disorder here, just a kid who has had no rules laid down for him to follow.
