School funding: Shorter school week should be considered, say head teachers - BBC News

It might actually give everyone a better quality of life if it was across the board, but then that would mean the usual BS statistics about the cost to the economy. You know, the written on the back of a prole type stuff.

A shorter school week has certain attractions but you'd need to also be in a position to either provide adequate (and affordable) child care for the day the kids aren't at school or otherwise (more radically) transition at least a significant proportion of the working population to a 4 day week as well. Productivity might actually increase but I can't see a Tory government going for that one tbh.

God, imagine if the tories actually gave a [LIFTED] about 'quality of life' for anyone who isn't already a billionaire.

That’ll mean a cut in pay for anyone working at the school, which will go down well. Then the teachers will get the blame for parents having to find those extra child care costs.

That's what I was getting at with across the board. You could potentially upgrade the lives of a lot of people if it was done wholesale with legislation, tying into the whole flexible working and being all for families Tory vibe ;)
