The size and weight of a T. rex would have prevented it from moving faster than 20km/h (12mph), research suggests.

University of Manchester scientists used a new computer simulation to assess the speed of the massive biped.

Doesn 't really matter how fast it ran, just had to be faster than it's prey.

...and you don't have to run faster than the lion - just faster than the guy next to you

This. Considering the size of some it's potential meals I doubt the top speed was an issue. Likewise, it could have been an ambush hunter or even an opportunistic scavenger (or any mixture of methods that worked).

You only have to go fast if your prey is fast. TRex’s real problems would be either the size/bulk of anything it tries to kill, or the armour plating. I like the idea of it being more a carrion eater than a hunter. Those almost residual front limbs aren’t that good for holding onto anything that’s struggling, and keeping balance on just two legs during a kill may also be a problem.
