Is North Korea is such a bad way that the only non-humiliating way out is to threaten the USA and hope for an invasion? The only other thing I can think of is China using North Korea as a proxy.

Why would China want a conflict between NK and USA? The Chinese government owns billions of dollars worth of US assets and shares and a good fraction of that value would be wiped out by any such actions, as the worldwide stock markets would almost certainly take a dive at such events. While the NK government in bonkers, it's at least stable in it's own way and removing it would sew chaos in that part of the world.

Put simply, why would the Chinese government be encouraging NK to take a dump in it's back garden?

What's the coastal exclusion zone around Guam?

NK better hope their targeting is accurate, coz Trump would love an excuse to flex his war muscles.
