A mum has called for a "lewd and offensive" pantomime starring the Krankies, and former Doctor Who star John Barrowman, to be axed.

Natalie Wood has made an official complaint about Dick Whittington at Manchester Opera House, saying it was "too smutty" for children.

I can kind of understand the the adult-themed jokes in a children's show. Disney-Pixar and the like have been doing them for years. Kids get to enjoy the simple straightforward jokes and adults can get a kick from the more subtle jokes. But the account seems much more brazen and lewd:

Quote:
Barrowman fondled co-star Janette Krankie's breasts

Quote:
invited audience members to chant "Alice loves Dick"

Quote:
Janette Krankie, poked her finger out of her trousers, emulating a penis

TBH, panto has always had elements of double-entrendre. A couple of weeks ago I went to watch my 10 year old niece who was in their village panto, a mish-match of Dick Whittington and Pirates of the Caribbean and there were lines about being around lots of seamen and about being tossed off (over board). In a family show! The kids didn’t get those jokes but there was some quiet sniggers from the dads in the audience - and gasps and tuts from the mums and grans!

But that's the whole point - to the kids it is someone being "Tossed" overboard - so its funny but not rude

the best of course is ISIHAC esp back in Humphs day with Samantha

We went and saw Dick Whittington at the Palladium

Julian Cleary (sp?) made a lot of jokes on how he would "Handle Dick"

Overall very funny
