Terry Wogan will be stepping down as host of his breakfast radio shaw at the end of the year. Chris Evans will be taking over.

Simon Mayo taking over from Chris Evans? Looks like it's Radio 4 on the way home from work for me then

 No more Janet and John? No more Chuffer? No more Boggy?

This won't do. :(

Yeah, I heard him announce it this morning, no doubt prompted by the article in the Mail.

End of an era. :(

Sarah Kennedy is ill more often than not these days too... are we going to see wholesale changes?
Maybe they'll give Alex Lester an extra hour or two in bed.

I hear more Kennedy than Wogan. She’s bloody annoying, and I much prefer it when she is not on. At the moment, it’s Aled Jones.

Don't know, but it probably has something to do with illegral immigrants, homosexuals, single mums, dole cheats and terrorists*, and will undoubtedly lead to falling house prices. ;)

* Did I miss anybody out? ;) :P

My fear has always been that at some point during his show, the radio would go silent, and sombre music would be played heralding the announcement that he had been taken ill and died.

The thing is - he’s 71, and he has to know that he can’t go on doing what he does for ever. I’m kind of glad he’s bowing out in this way - while he’s still able to string a sentence together and make witty comments. I don’t think any of us want a Terry who is just babbling incoherently (like the person who usually precedes him on a weekday morning).

It was a wise decision for him, but I bet it was a very tough one.

That did kinda happen once... It all went quiet, then Deadly's voice came on, and all he said was the name of the song coming up. This lasted for about three or four songs, at which point they, (finally) told us that the equipment had broken down and Terry was on his way to another studio.

it did make a lot of people worry though.

Agreed, and I'm guessing that's also, (at least partially) the reason he stopped doing the Eurovision.

You may yawn Nick but Radio 2 is the new Radio 1 (not that I really listen to either)

Ricky and Melvin on Kiss fm wake me up.

Terry is a legend though and I'm sad to hear he's standing down. Apparently he will be back in the new year with a new show.

With all due respect, Bah. Alistair Cooke and Humphrey Lyttleton were still broadcasting well into their dotage (the former 95(!) and the latter 86) and were as insightful/witty as ever. However it's his choice to carry on or not and I'm sure doing the breakfast show is quite debilitating - most breakfast TV presenters don't last a decade, for example.

Never the less it is also strangely coincidental with stories that some of the BBC's most highly paid 'talent' are not going to be offered new contracts at anywhere near the wages they are currently getting. I do wonder if he's doing a 'sunday train driver'.

I heard he stopped doing Eurovision because it was no longer about the music.
