There are a couple of issues here. Firstly the majority of people are too stupid and lazy to actually know what they want to watch and when. So, they come home from their soul destroying 9-5, whack the tv on and bask in it's calming, brain washing, behaviour conditioning warm glow. Secondly isn't sky+ technically a VoD service, not in the strictest sense, but people load them up with stuff to watch (or not) when they feel like it. Surely that in itself will severely kick linear viewing habits. Thirdly analysts are full of s h i t, and generally don't know their arses from their iphones. Personally, I don't even have an aerial connected to my TV anymore, the only thing I really watch live is sports in another room, and I watched the last England match online. |

The only thing I watch at home is iPlayer. (In terms of TV) (Or 4oD) I can't stand sitting in front of the TV watching drivel spewing out of it so I only watch what I want to watch. |

iPlayer will only replace real TV once HD programs are made as easy to stream as Youtube videos are. And going on today's intertube connectios, it'll be a looong time before we get that. |

iPlayer/4oD/itvPlayer/Virgin on demand already has replaced 'normal' TV for me. |

I use my Freeview recorder for most things. I used iPlayer in the evening last week and it kept stalling every 5 mins or so for about 30 seconds at a time. BB throttling and caps are helping to ensure that iPlayer and the like won't replace TV. |

I'd sooner torrent a show I'd missed than watch a crappy iPlayer stream or wait years on it downloading, and even then I might not go out of my way As others have mentioned, for many it comes down to your connection and mine's is rather good, but I just have no luck with iPlayer

Technically, PVR's are not VoD, they are time-shifting devices. With Sky+ and the like, things are only available 'in the service' if you remember to record them when they are on. The boxes may be able to automate that but it's still the case. VoD is a different thing. With VoD, you can go and watch something if someone at work/school tells you 'Oh, I saw <such a thing> last night, it was really good'. That's the extra thing that makes VoD services so attractive, you don't need to be aware of the show before it's on. Jon |

Sometimes my connection is so slow that I have to wait for ages while something buffers or it'll pause every few seconds - it somehow manages to be more annoying than the "We buy any car" advert, the Jacamo advert and the hordes of "We buy your gold (and "promise" to pay you for it) adverts" combined. I'd rather just take my chances with Sky! |

It’s happening here too. I need to whack a much bigger HD in the PS3, then it can just record stuff for me to watch when I want. At the moment, it’s all a bit of a squeeze. |

I’m using the Sony gizmo. It’s running fine off the existing TV ariel. The bonus being that if you want to save something for posterity, you can (with a bit of software on the Mac to crunch the file sizes down to a more useable size). |
