Bearing in mind few people here trust the Tories  , what do we make of these proposals?

On one hand I don't trust ANY politicians or the companies they'll bring in to maintain the databases, on the other, I can see certain benefits to the databases but am worried about this being the thin end of the wedge :?

When they see how “useful” it is, they’ll back down on this.

Given that it is the Tories, they'll keep ID cards just for certain social groups and income brackets, excluding their affluent white Eaton-educated selves of course. They'll want to keep an eye on us Proles just in case we get ideas above our stations.

Given the level of cuts that they ( or any party) will have to find they will probably do it as the Databases are

Unpopular
Expensive

Also any costs in cancelling them they can blame on NuLabour whereas if they go ahead and then the budget overruns ( as it always seems to) they will get blamed
