I thought that was one of the big things people like about Starbucks, that they offered free wireless to customers? ![]() It is one of the reasons that Steve Gibson generally works out of Starbucks... |

I also thought that free wifi was one of the perks of getting your coffee there. |

Hmm, seems the USA is the same, customer card = 2 hours Wi-Fi... Although AT&T DSL customers can use it for free, without a card. Germany is only 1 hour, or be a T-Mobile customer. |

Starbucks have never had free wi-fi in their Northern England branches, my personal experience covers pretty much the breadth of the country from the Scottish border to say Sheffield. I'm pretty sure London branches don't have it either, although obviously being in London there is so much other free wi-fi it's like walking around in a microwave oven with shops in it. |

What? How is that a big news? Even my local pub in Reading (Copa) does free wifi. Have managers at Starbuck only woke up? ![]() |

I live in a large village and one of the pubs has free wifi as well. Starbucks are slow to catch up. |

It's big news because Starbucks is a big company. They have rather more presence on the high street than your local. |

My point is that these days even buses have free wifi (Railair from Reading) so a coffe shop doing wifi is no news no matter how big their presence is. ![]() |

Costa do free WiFi. As do McDonalds. Buying coffee was the only way I had internet for 6 weeks. |

Now where I live, they don’t. It’s like a bloody Faraday cage there - no 3G inside either. Still go there for tea when I’m out and about though. |

So, if free wifi is so prevalent (depending on where you live, I can't bring to mind any free hotspots in my town), then the story is 'At last! Starbucks gives us free wifi.' Still news. |

Oh OK. In Farnborough it's run by The Cloud or BT Openzone or something, but there's a big banner at the top with a username and password that gives you access until midnight. |
