clicky

Let the Graphic card wars restar.. again :lol:

But what about that most lethal destroyer of graphics performance, the shader-soaked visual masterpiece that is Crytek's Crysis: Warhead?

Well, the 5870 is the first card to average over 30fps and thereby deliver tolerably playable frame rates at full HD resolutions and with all the eye candy enabled.

All of which means the new Radeon HD 5870 is a no brainer if money isn't an object. It's the very fastest graphics chip available to mankind and that knowledge is a beautiful thing if there's one humming away in your PC.

The bit-tech review is a bit more telling

Apart from the power consumption, it is on par with what is already out.
I'd wait for gen 2 DX11 stuff.

True, I am finally looking to replace my 8800 gts card (well that ansd the rest of my rig :lol: ), so will probably looking to get the 260. Its so much easier (and cheaper) missing "generations" of cards.
Gone are the days when I would be buying the latest and greatest and wallet emptying "stuff". :cry: I now have to have "reasons" :lol:

Aye, aside from the fact that there aren't any titles to take advantage of DX11 and W7 isn't officially released until next month I think I'll wait until nvidia get a competitor out and help drive prices down. I'm tight. :D

It is nice to see power consumption coming down with an increase in performance though.

If you remember when DX10 was coming out, Crysis was already on the horizon, a Call of Juarez patch, Lost Planet, Company of Heroes etc etc. DX11 so far has DIRT 2 (which looks the same as DIRT 1), Alien vs Predator...umm....

There aren't any big games on the horizon as far as I can see - Crysis was our Concorde moment, it's DX9 console ports with extras tacked on from here on in. There is a new DX11 Stalker game coming out, but that could go either way!

Just read the bit-tech review.
Apparently there are still only Beta drivers available, so I'd expect better performance as drivers mature.

Oh no.... I'm currently just plodding through Clear Sky that I finally got around to buying for just a few quid.

Honestly, not sure why I bothered, I find the Stalker games both tedious and vacuous.... Damn my aspergic need to finish it!!!

So it's basically infront of the GTX285, which costs the same or less depending on model/version and behind the more expensive GTX295. Firmly between the two then. On that basis it looks like pretty good value imo for £200. Will be interesting to see DX11 performance .

GTX285=£199-£319 (non-watercooled versions)
5870=£298-£309
GTX295=£339-399 (non-watercooled versions)

Thats in the middle isnt it? I meant to put £300 obviously. 200 was a typo.
