Why?

There is hardly any content for 1080p, why get something which will display twice that, when there isn't anything to supply it with images. Unless I am missing something it sounds like, currently, technology for technology's sake. I know the new digital film camera for cinematographers use an even higher resolution, but consumer devices and streamed media is a max of 1080p and more commonly SD or 720p... :?

And by the time we do have standards for resolutions greater than 1080p this thing won't comply. Complete waste!

It would make a monster PC screen!

I agree the resolution will not be supported for a long time with only the very latest cinema equipment offering 4K resolutions (4096×2160).

Arent 21:9 (I really want one of these) and 3D TVs on the horizon too?

JV its a TV featuring 21:9 rather than 16:9 so there's no black bars (displays 2.40:1 movies without letterboxes I believe, big budget blockbusters commonly use this). Its wiiiiiide!

A 21:9 widescreen HD TV will be nice, but I will be waiting till OLED is around before I upgrade my TV's. The price will be another factor.

How can it record in "the utmost clarity"? It can only record at the quality that is being broadcast.

I think the TV that I linked to above only costs £4.5k.

OK. I reluctantly agree. But you still wobble.
