Why? There is hardly any content for 1080p, why get something which will display twice that, when there isn't anything to supply it with images. Unless I am missing something it sounds like, currently, technology for technology's sake. I know the new digital film camera for cinematographers use an even higher resolution, but consumer devices and streamed media is a max of 1080p and more commonly SD or 720p...

And by the time we do have standards for resolutions greater than 1080p this thing won't comply. Complete waste!

It would make a monster PC screen!
I agree the resolution will not be supported for a long time with only the very latest cinema equipment offering 4K resolutions (4096×2160).
Arent 21:9 (I really want one of these) and 3D TVs on the horizon too?

Thats what I said! JV its a TV featuring 21:9 rather than 16:9 so there's no black bars (displays 2.40:1 movies without letterboxes I believe, big budget blockbusters commonly use this). Its wiiiiiide! _________________Twitter Blogflickr

A 21:9 widescreen HD TV will be nice, but I will be waiting till OLED is around before I upgrade my TV's. The price will be another factor.
