Orange has reached an agreement to sell Apple's popular iPhone in the UK.

The deal ends an exclusive arrangement between UK network operate O2 and the Californian phone maker, which has been in place since 2007.

Orange said its customers would be able to buy the phone "later this year" but did not specify a date or pricing.

Tres interessant!

I'm on Orange at the moment and my contract is due to run out about the next time an iPhone update is due.

I wonder if Orange will be able to keep my custom?

I seriously doubt it though and I'll be jumping ship to O2 without a second thought if they can't match the prices.

Interesting. In the USA, AT&T will lose their monopoly on the iPhone shortly, but only the first generation 3G, other providers will be able to sell the 3G, but AT&T get another year with the 3GS, ISTR.

I tend to switch back and forth between o2 and Orange as my contracts expire, but whenever I move from o2 to Orange my bills increase - mainly because it is impossible to use your inclusive minutes and texts - everything just seems to be extra. With o2 everything forms part of your allowance, even photo/MMS messages. I await details of Orange's iphone contracts with interest!

I do wish that there were more networks that had access to the iPhone then we could actually get some competition on tariffs. I am with O2 and have had no problems, but some competition would be good.

To be fair, given how heavily the UK networks subsidise handsets, you generally get very good deals on monthly contracts. I can't see Orange offering anything significantly better than what O2 currently offer.

They might on a pay as you go option where there is no subsidy.

I was thinking maybe fewer minutes but a shorter contract so you can get a new iPhone every year.
