Quote:
Device manufacturers will be required to set a default maximum volume level of no more than 80 decibels....

“There will be default volume settings so people can protect themselves and there will be new information requirements either on the screen or on the devices themselves.

“The aim is to make people aware that beyond certain noise levels you risk long-term damage to hearing, but users will be given a choice and have the option to override it if they want to.”

I'd be interested to know just how loud 80 decibels is on my MP3 player... And so long as this doesn't wind up being annoying like a screen popping up when you just want some loud rock, I've no problem with it.

As long as the option to override stays on devices, then I have no objection.

I assume this 80dB is the volume you're supposed to get with the rubbish default earphones. But when you use higher quality ones, the sound is often far louder on the same volume setting :?

Quite true. I have to turn the volume right down for my Shure earphones.
