I turn the volume off in such places and loosen the earplugs so that I can hear what is going on, without it looking like I have stop playing the music. Though in really dangerous areas the headphones are hidden completely so there is no reason to rob me. That plus the fact I am built like an outside toilet have kept me out of trouble. That said such attacks are very rare on women.
