Meanwhile, back in the Real World™ the coverage of 3G is pretty patchy outside of big cities. I’ve found my 3G dongle drop back to GPRS far more than I’ve be happy to count.

+1. I had a T-mobile Dongle. Where the reception was excellent, I was getting decent BB-type speeds. Where there was a poor signal, speeds were slower than dialup!

I am not sure about Chrome but will agree with 3G having a big impact. Though mobile data charges need to be much more competitive to seal the deal.
