Well…

a single 20-tonne weapon system capable of a limited number of "shots", perhaps as few as six. The six-tonne chemical laser must be refuelled with dangerous toxic fuels once it is empty, a procedure much more logistically troublesome than loading regular ammo aboard an AC-130.

we’re still a way off from phasers and photon torpedos. I expect the size to decrease, the number of shots to increase and the refuelling problems to be reduced over the coming years.

My dad gave me a funny look the other day after he had been complaining about the washing machine not letting him do something cos of it's set 'computer' routine, and I said some of these manufacturers mustn't have seen Terminator

You know, just because you're a paranoiac, it doesn't mean they are not really out to get you.

The best bit of the article is right at the bottom though:

The news will doubtless have a depressing effect in evil billionaire circles. It would seem that the day of the cranially mounted, shark-portable, waterproof pool menagerie above-water combat augmentation system remains as far off as ever.
