If they're Iraqi citizens then Iraq has no right to refuse them entry. Why should we take them?

They probably didn't have passports. I imagine we'd turn you away if you arrived at London from Bagdad with no paperwork.

Yes, my outrageously Yorkshire accent wouldn't be recognised by the retards at immigration. ;)
Surely it wouldn't take that long to check with the government?

I have no idea, but I don't intend to find out! I can rather imagine some jumped-up little Hitler being totally bloody minded about it.

Actually, a friend of mine recently had their passport stolen while in Spain. It was a nightmare trying to get a new one, and the consulate were absolutely no use what so ever. They just told her to go to the passport office in the UK, which obviously involved traveling without one. In theory, you don't need one to travel within the EU but I've yet to find out how she fared. I think she's due back home (France) quite soon, so I'll find out then.

I am pretty sure that you can travel in the EU with a drivers license, but I wouldn't like to test that theory either.

I am not sure what to make of this. If we can't send asylum seekers back to their country of origin, then we'll just get totally overwhelmed, but considering what a soft touch the UK is seen as, I tend to despise the entire immigration service and think that they have probably just had a lesson in exactly how tough we could and should be.

You can absolutely no problem, provided it's one of the newer EU photo ones.

Unfortunately for my friend, when her bag was stolen she lost pretty much every form of ID plus credit cards etc.

You need a national identity card or passport.

We travelled to England to visit my sick mum in February and my girlfriend only has her German Ausweis, no passport. Customs at Dover didn't bat an eyelid.
