Local councils are to get the power to seize the assets of minor offenders under government moves next week.

The Proceeds of Crime Act - brought in to target organised criminals could potentially be used against people in arrears with their council tax.

I love how these extreme powers are brought in only targeting a few and then are casually rolled out to cover everyone else. When will people wake up and realise that sometimes some extreme measures just aren't a good idea?

How the hell do they equate council tax arrears with "ill gotten gains"?

I await with glee, the first case against the government to seize their ill gotten gains. Or putting it another way, people trying to get their assets back.
