According to PC Pro, Orange’”s iPhone prices are the same as O2’s.

When a member of PC Pro's staff spoke to a member of O2's sales staff over the weekend, they were told that the company couldn't offer any discounts on iPhone tariffs because "the prices were set by Apple".

MacFormat has come to a simialar assesment.

So: by all means choose your iPhone provider because of loyalty, better network coverage or other deals, but don't, in this case, pick it by price.

Is this an example of price fixing? I don’t see any benefit in getting an iPhone from Orange over O2, and surely this impacts on competition.

I think so but proving it might be difficult and, for however long it takes, the bad Apple still makes the profits

Prospective iPhone owners will also have to be wary of the "unlimited browsing" that's offered with the Orange iPhone deals. A carefully-placed asterisk confirms that, in fact, the "unlimited" browsing is limited to 750MB per month.

a quick look at my usage and this month its 957MB, so its looking like no to moving to Orange then.

So that "unlimited browsing" is in fact a lie then.

And yes, this is price-fixing. But in the same way that Microsoft will get sued if they release Windows with Internet Explorer and Apple won't get sued for releasing OSX with Safari, Apple won't get in trouble over this.

Some companies can get away with it because they are not so big that everyone is jealous of them and they're not so small that they can't defend themselves.

I haven't looked in to this, but are the tariffs exactly the same too?

The price for the 3G is very high! We get a 16GB 3GS for that price  The 3G costs 1€ from T-Mobile... :?

The only difference I can see is Orange do a cheaper 24 month plan option and they give you a few more minutes with their cheapest 18 month tariff. I dont like the sound of Unlimited Internet ----- fair usage of 750MB. That is surely contradictory no?

I'd like an unlimited texts tariff on o2.

This is exactly what I suspected when I saw the thread title.

Wonder if Orange have been allowed to destroy the functionality of the phone with all the crap they smear over every other phone, orange themes, crippled web browsers and similar. Probably not, but hey, they might do.

iThink Apple would sooner not let them sell the iPhone than have Orange wreck the phone with their crap.

That's a load of rubbish, it should be cheaper on Orange because Orange don't have to split profits with apple.

Bring on vodafone.

Neither do O2

O2 used to when they had the exclusivity, but now they don't they have no obligation to share profits/sweeten the deal

The phone has been that price so that none of the companies upsets the other by offering a good deal
